Ragged Jack, Devil's Cheesewring and Castle Rock are a selection of strange rock formations which form the Valley of the Rocks after which our hotel in Lynton is named. The valley is a pleasant walk from the hotel in Lynton which is perched high on the cliff top above the fishing village of Lynmouth. The hotel is situated on the main street, commanding panoramic views of the bay from its sloping gardens. Named ‘Little Switzerland of England’ by the Victorians, the lovely cliff top village of Lynton is Devon at its very best! Abundant in Victorian architecture, art and craft shops and quaint tearooms, it boasts magnificent views of the dramatic coastline.
The hotel’s car park, which has limited space., If these spaces are full there is a nearby public car park.

Just So Good
We know that Shearings do fantastic good value holidays and we do not not how you do it!. Your hotel staff are so good- and the waiting staff were happy! This means they are not treated badly. The hotel was welcoming and our room was lovely. Very clean and basic but with good views and it was so quiet we got restless as we we could not hear the railway and motorway as we usually do. Food was good. Let your chefs have a bit more leeway please! They know what they are doing! Thank you

My Favourite
I want to say this is my third stay in this hotel since October 2010 and I love it. I stay usually in room 72, they will remember me! I just love the hotel, the staff, the location and Shearings, I hope you are proud of your staff, I have got to know them all personally and they are a lovely bunch. The views are simply stunning and Lynton and Lynmouth has many beautiful memories of my parents, as does the hotel. I would not want to go to Lynton and stay elsewhere.

Weekend Treat
Just got back from a weekend break at the Valley of Rocks Hotel and we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very old and could do with a new coat of paint and the room was a bit tired, but for the time spent in it, not a problem. The food was good and the staff friendly.

Lovely hotel in a lovely resort
My wife have been to this hotel several times over recent years. We have booked a superior room with sea-view each time - the views are worth it! A homely hotel with friendly welcoming staff. Great position overlooking Lynmouth and Countisbury Hill - see my photos on Google Earth. The hotel's car park is small, but the free town car park parking permits allow parking in Lynmouth as well as Lynton - a bonus!
